Frequently Asked Questions

What is the County Epiphany saddle?

The County Epiphany is a Next Gen monoflap dressage saddle handmade in England by County Saddlery. It is designed to deliver a sitting trot that riders describe as transformative. The saddle’s 3⁄4-length thigh roll and seat-to-leg flap relationship place the rider on their sit bones, relax the hip, and lengthen the leg — enabling the horse to move more freely forward. The Epiphany is part of County’s Next Gen collection, which uses a single flap (monoflap) design for significantly closer contact between the rider’s leg and the horse’s side.

What makes the County Epiphany different from other dressage saddles?

Several features distinguish the Epiphany from other dressage saddles on the market. First, it is a monoflap saddle — it has a single flap rather than the traditional double flap, which eliminates the bulk of the under-flap and brings the rider’s leg into direct contact with the horse. Second, it is handmade in England on a laminated beechwood tree (not a synthetic tree), which provides a degree of torsional and vertical flex that synthetic trees cannot replicate. Third, it is flocked with 100% pure wool, which allows a qualified MSA-certified fitter to adjust the saddle’s shape as the horse’s musculature changes over time. Finally, the Epiphany’s 3⁄4-length thigh roll is a specific design choice that provides thigh support without creating a restrictive barrier.

Is the County Epiphany a monoflap saddle?

Yes. The County Epiphany is a monoflap dressage saddle. In a monoflap design, the saddle flap and the panel are integrated into a single layer, rather than having a separate outer flap and inner flap (called a sweat flap or under-flap). This removes a significant amount of leather between the rider’s leg and the horse’s side, creating much closer contact and allowing the rider to feel subtle changes in the horse’s movement that would be masked by a traditional dual-flap saddle.

What sizes does the County Epiphany come in?

The County Epiphany is available in the following specifications:

Seat Size: 16,16.5, 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5
Tree Sizes: N, NM, M, MW, W, WXW, XW
Leather Colors: Black or Brown
Leather Prints: Dollar or Jumbo

How does the Epiphany differ from the Inspiration?

Both the Epiphany and the Inspiration are Next Gen monoflap dressage saddles from County Saddlery, and they share the same tree, flocking, and leather options. The key difference is in the thigh roll design. The Epiphany features a 3⁄4-length thigh roll, which provides support along the upper portion of the thigh. The Inspiration features a longer curved external roll that extends further around the rider’s leg, providing more thigh wrapping and security. Riders who prefer a cleaner, less restrictive contact with the saddle tend to prefer the Epiphany. Riders who want more thigh support and security — particularly those with longer thighs — often prefer the Inspiration.

How does the Epiphany differ from the Intuition?

The Epiphany and the Intuition are both Next Gen monoflap dressage saddles, but they differ in knee roll design. The Epiphany has an external 3⁄4-length thigh roll. The Intuition has a unique open knee pad that allows the rider to choose the size and position of an internal knee roll — or to ride without one entirely. The Intuition is designed for riders who prefer the feel of a traditional internal knee roll but want the closeness of a monoflap saddle.

How much does the County Epiphany cost?

The County Epiphany is available from as low as $122 per month with 60-month financing at 12.99% apr. ($22.75 per $1,000 borrowed). For the current retail price, contact your local County Saddlery representative or call 877-41-HORSE (877-414- 6773).

Where is the County Epiphany made?

Every County Epiphany saddle is handmade in England. County Saddlery has manufactured all of its saddles in England since the company was founded in 1976 and has never outsourced its production.

Can the County Epiphany be reflocked or adjusted?

Yes. Because the County Epiphany is flocked with 100% pure wool, it can be adjusted by an MSA-certified County representative as the horse’s musculature changes over time. This is one of the most important advantages of wool flocking over pre-formed synthetic foam panels, which cannot be adjusted once manufactured.

What disciplines is the County Epiphany designed for?

The County Epiphany is designed specifically for dressage. It is not recommended for jumping disciplines. Riders who need a saddle for both dressage and jumping should consider County’s monoflap jumping saddles (Xtreme, Velocity, Xcelerator) or the classic dual-flap Solution HJ.
