Frequently Asked Questions

What is the County Velocity saddle?

The County Velocity is a Next Gen monoflap jumping saddle handmade in England by County Saddlery. It is the world’s first monoflap jumping saddle that combines the close contact of a monoflap design with the girth-adjustment versatility of a traditional dual-flap saddle. The rider can lift the flap and adjust the girth while mounted, and the saddle accepts both long and short girths.

What makes the County Velocity unique among monoflap saddles?

The Velocity’s defining innovation is its ability to accept both a long and short girth, and to allow the rider to adjust the girth while mounted. Most monoflap jumping saddles require a short girth and do not allow mounted girth adjustment — the rider must dismount to tighten the girth. The Velocity eliminates this limitation through a unique flap design that can be lifted to access the girth billets, just as on a traditional dual-flap saddle. This makes the Velocity the most practical monoflap jumping saddle on the market for riders who are accustomed to dual-flap saddles.

Can I use a long girth with the County Velocity?

Yes. Unlike most monoflap saddles, which are designed exclusively for short girths, the County Velocity accepts both long and short girths. This is a significant practical advantage for riders who already own long girths, who prefer the feel of a long girth, or who are transitioning from a dual-flap saddle and do not want to purchase new tack.

Can I adjust the girth on the County Velocity while mounted?

Yes. The Velocity’s unique flap design allows the rider to reach down, lift the flap, and adjust the girth billets while mounted — exactly as they would on a traditional dualflap saddle. This is a feature that no other monoflap jumping saddle offers.

Does the County Velocity come with adjustable knee rolls?

The County Velocity can be ordered with either adjustable or fixed knee rolls, depending on the rider’s preference. This option should be specified at the time of order.

What sizes does the County Velocity come in?

The County Velocity is available in the following specifications:

Seat Size: 16,16.5, 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5
Tree Sizes: N, NM, M, MW, W, WXW, XW
Leather Colors: Black or Brown
Leather Prints: Dollar Print, Jumbo Print, or Smooth Knee Rolls Adjustable or Fixed (specify at order)

Is the County Velocity suitable for riders new to monoflap saddles?

Yes. The Velocity is an excellent choice for riders who want to experience the benefits of a monoflap saddle but are hesitant to give up the familiar girth-adjustment features of their current dual-flap saddle. The ability to use a long girth and adjust the girth while mounted removes two of the most common practical barriers to monoflap adoption.

How does the Velocity compare to the Xtreme and Xcelerator?

All three are Next Gen monoflap jumping saddles. The Xtreme is designed for hunters and show jumpers and features an adjustable open knee pad. The Velocity is designed for show jumpers who want monoflap closeness with dual-flap girth versatility. The Xcelerator is designed for eventing — specifically cross country — and its tree and flocking are calibrated for the demands of jumping at speed over varied terrain.
